W2 is a 10,000 square-foot urban digital culture centre in the Woodward's Atrium, committed to community cultural development in the DTES. W2 works for cross-cultural dialogue, social inclusion, and breaking the digital divide.
W2 Media Cafe is a cultural hub where digital art, food, culture and social inclusion intersect. W2 operates our social enterprise cafe as a front-porch to our 3-floor facility, and delivers creative technology programs and services for artists and residents of the Downtown Eastside and Vancouver. Serving healthy, high quality food and beverages, and employing mostly DTES residents, the cafe is unique in the neighbourhood - offering a globally connected experience in a hyperlocal, community-supportive context.
W2 is offering a full-time permanent position of bookkeeper to support W2's diverse range of programs and services. Beginning immediately, this is a 3-4 day/week permanent position. Given the nature of the Cafe operations and the Community Media Arts programming, there may be some evening or weekend work hours required.
We are seeking creative people committed to social justice who want to work in a challenging and supportive work place, and whose life interests coincide with the mandate and purpose of W2. Staff will be sharp, resourceful, have life experience, and be interested in creative pursuits involving digital culture, journalism, media arts and social change. Staff members are encouraged to work some hours outside of their contracted job duties in order to acquire a more complete understanding of the W2 operations, as well as build a broad set of life and work skillsets.
WageRate $18-$25/hour (commensurate with experience); starting immediately. Our wages are modest, but our staff rewards include full access to the resources of W2 for creative projects including the letterpress studios, editing suites, performance spaces and media resources. Background reading can be found on W2's online community website (creativetechnology.org).
